Gateway’s Study Abroad opportunities were designed to help you develop and enhance these critical career skills.
Built around Gateway’s academic programs, the trips are typically two to three weeks in length and , planned around breaks to work with student schedules. They usually cost less than $4,000, and Gateway works with students to help cover program costs – funding up to $750 from Gateway, financial aid eligibility and additional fundraising opportunities.
Eligibility
Study Abroad is programs are open to all Gateway students that meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a minimum of 2.5 grade point average in declared program and completed at least six (6) credits
- Provide two (2) recommendations from Gateway faculty or staff members
- Interview as part of the application process
- Comply with department and college policies and remain free of disciplinary action or progressive discipline action
- Have or obtain a valid U.S. Passport
Participant Requirements
If selected to participate you must:
- Register for and successfully complete the required Gateway course(s)
- Meet all deadlines including payment deadlines
- Participate in the mandatory pre- and post-departure activities including orientations
- Submit a signed Publicity Release form
- Submit a completed Medical/Emergency Information form (We reserve the right to request additional health information from you and/or a statement from your health care provider verifying your health prior to departure)
- Submit a copy of the front page of your passport
- Keep your student account current
- Meet program requirements and comply with any applicable rule, code of conduct, regulation, instruction or law during the program. Noncompliance may result in expulsion from the program, forfeiture of fees, and being immediately sent home at your expense
Financial Assistance
Students selected for one of the Study Abroad programs qualify for financial assistance.
- New, first-time Global Scholars will receive $750 in funds from Gateway.
- Previous Global Scholars will receive $500 in funds from Gateway.
- If you are eligible for financial aid, you may use it to pay tuition for the required coursework.
Fee Payment Schedule
The following fees are due upon acceptance into the program at orientation.
- $80 application and processing fee.
- This fee is ONLY refundable if you drop from the program prior the start of the semester of classes. It's non-refundable after the start of the semester of travel.
- $200 flight reservation fee - This fee is used to reserve airline seats for participating students and is applied to the accounts of participating students, usually a month before travel.
- This fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether the student participates in the program or not.
Course Tuition and Program Fees
- Tuition for the required Gateway course(s) are paid to Gateway and are subject to the same payment and refund policies as other Gateway courses.
- Student account must be current prior to departure.
How to Apply
You can apply for Gateway Study Abroad in seven simple steps:
- Find the Study Abroad opportunity you want to pursue.
- Complete and submit your application by the deadline.
- Obtain two (2) online recommendations from Gateway staff by entering their information in the application. You will need to enter their email addresses. Be sure to let them know you are asking for a recommendation.
- Prepare for your interview and presentation dressed in business casual attire.
- Pay your $80 enrollment fee, attend orientation and meet your classmates.
- Register for the required Gateway course(s) via My Gateway during registration.
- Attend class as scheduled.
- Travel to your international destination.
